Huawei chosen for the mobile number portability project

Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) has awarded the Chinese supplier, Huawei, the contract for the supply, installation and operation of a database purposely to manage mobile number portability in Cameroon.

“This contract for a total of slightly more than 1.5 billion Cfa francs must be executed within a period of seven months,” noted the Executive Director of ART in an official statement released to this effect.

Ranked 3rd OEM Telecom in the world, the Chinese firm, Huawei, became the main partner of Cameroon for the development of telecommunications. They are to develop assets such as the deployment of optic fibre in the country, launch a Ctphone, a mobile landline and the construction of a GSM network of the incumbent operator, Camtel which is the holder of the fourth mobile licence in Cameroon.

This Chinese company, which recently embarked on commercialization of smartphones in Cameroon, has also entered into the area of solar energy with the installation of lights on the Yaoundé- Soa road and has an interest in a construction of a photovoltaic mini-hydropower project to allow electrification of 1000 Cameroonian localities
