Higher Education: Professional education under review

The Minister of Higher Education who is also the Chancellor of Academic Orders Jacque Fame Ndongo has indicated government's intention to beef up professionalism of higher education in the country as a measure to meet the current changing world.

Professor Jacque Fame was speaking this Wednesday March 18, 2015 at the National Advanced School of Engineering, Polytechnic Yaounde.

The forum was an occasion to assess ten years of professionalization of Education in the country, the Minister said.

In 2005, government readjusted the curricula of the higher education sector through professional training orientations that the State as well as private higher schools of learning have, embraced.

It is against this backdrop that ten years after the orientation, stakeholders and the higher educational family are meeting to revive mechanisms to suit the technological world and improve dynamism in the job market.

One of the participants, Rector of the University of Maroua, Professor Edward Ako said professionalization has been effectively implemented in his institution especially in the Higher Teacher's Training Centre HTTC, the Institute of the Sahel and many other departments in the university.

Another participant, Rector of the University of Douala Dieudonne Oyono said his university has signed partnerships with companies in the country as a means to authenticate professional training through seasonal internships offered by these companies.

It is hoped that at the end of the forum, an efficient implementation mechanism must have been instituted in the country's higher educational system that will groom students for the job market and the new world.
