Famous Cameroonian journalist, Henriette Ekwe, has been absent from the television screens for a while now and the public are beginning to question her whereabout.

The 66-year-old journalist is no longer visible on television because she was involved in a serious traffic accident on November 10, 2015, in Bata in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

"She left Cameroon on November 9 with a strong delegation to attend the congress of the ruling party PDGE (Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea). Eight journalists and panelists of Afrique Media almost lost their lives during a traffic accident that occurred on the Bata-Mbini road.

According to our source in Bata who was also at the scene, the journalists, eight of them in number: Rodrigue Tchokodjeu, Henriette Ekwe, Patient Parfait Ndom, Joséphine Ndenha, Beni Christ, among others were to attend the opening ceremony of the extraordinary congress of the PDGE on November 10 in Bata.

"The incident occurred at Mbini, a neighbouring town which is about 50 kilometers from the ceremony grounds. The Mercedes 500 car that transported them and driven by a visibly drunk driver who lost control and drove into a mangrove after hitting several tree trunks. The mangrove is covered by the Mbini River which was named after the city."

"The journalists were taken out of the heavily damaged vehicle by some rescuers. While some had a few bruises others suffered serious injuries including Josephine Ndenha who had a broken rib and Henriette Ekwe three fractured ribs," reported our colleague, Félix Epée.

With broken ribs, the winner of the "Women of Courage Award", awarded in 2011 by the US State Department, has still not recovered from this accident.

Worse, she almost died two days ago in Douala. Her condition was complicated to the point of plunging into a coma.

However, the great advocate for freedom of expression and human rights regained consciousness later, but her return to the center stage is not soon.
