Gustave succeeds Françoise Foning

Mayor's office Mayor's office

Ebanda Gustave, the first Deputy of Douala 5th has been elected as the new Mayor during a municipal Council meeting yesterday.

The voting process which was scheduled at 10am started late at 3:30pm

The winner was to influentially emerge from the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (CPDM). However, within the party, three activists were fighting over the succession of Françoise Foning. They were Ebanda Gustave, Jeannot Tamandjo and Jacob Kiari.

Since Tuesday, August 4, 2015, the Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo, Communication Secretary of the CPDM, has been the head of a delegation of the central Committee of his party sent to Douala to find common ground between the activists of the party who competed for the position of Mayor.

At the latest news, negotiations held behind closed doors did not differentiate between the leading contenders, Ebanda Gustave and Jeannot Tamandjo. Finally, at the end of an election, Ebanda Gustave the first Deputy, took over with 43 votes leading Tamandjo, former sub-prefect of Douala 5th, with 12 voted.

The special session of the municipal Council will soon begin. Thus, unless something miraculous happens, Gustave Ebanda, the CPDM candidate, will be elected mayor. He was Mayor on a short-term after the death of Françoise Foning in January 2015.

The prefect of Wouri, who ensures the administrative supervision, informed Cameroon - info.NET that out of the six assistant positions, one will be awarded to the opposition. A decision that could make Françoise Foning return from her grave because, in the last election, she had refused an Assistant to the opposition.
