Guibai Gatama named best journalist for 2014

The Director of the newspaper "L’œil du Sahel" received his prize Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at a lavish hotel at ville aux sept collines.

The National Award of the press is an honorary initiative designed to improve the contents of the media by promoting media excellence. The competition organized by the Association of the Cameroonian diplomatic press from 2013, rewards the Cameroonian journalists who distinguished themselves during the year by a professional job in Radio, TV and print media categories.

This year's theme focused on security and the treatment of information related to the war against the Islamist sect Boko Haram. The winners of the second edition are Guibai Gatama of l’œil du sahel (best journalist for the written press), Eric Benjamin Lamère of the Cameroon Radio Television (best television reporter) and David Wanedam of Radio Afrik 2 (best radio journalist).

The jury of the National Award of the Cameroonian press was composed of Sismondi Barlev Bidjocka (Radio Tiemeni Siantou), Polycarpe Essomba (Radio France International) and Parfait Siki (Journal Repères).

Mr Atangana Manda, who represented Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary at this ceremony, noted the spirit of professionalism inhabited by the three winners of the year 2014.

The Director of publication of l’œil du sahel was particularly distinguished by his information on Boko Haram. Moreover, RFI presented him as being a specialist in issues related to the Nigerian Islamist sect.
