Govt constructing new roads around the national territory

In Cameroon, almost all of the roads are non tarred. Not less than 26 roads are built (covered with bitumen) at this time through the ten regions of Cameroon.

As shown in the last evaluation of the national road network, only 5000 km are covered with asphalt, and thus passable in all seasons, on a set of approximately 100,000 km. However, the Minister public works Patrice Amba Salla explained to CT the conditions in which the emergency plan can succeed in improving the condition and the density of roads.

It is worth noting that these roads are important for the development of agriculture, livestock and tourism, sectors-sources of decisive points for economic growth. In the order of presentation, the Yaounde-Douala highway was ranked number one for the implementation of construction works.

The "deforestation" and other works on the top ten kilometers, is expected to be completed in 2018. This motorway will help to decongest other channels of communication such as the current route linking two Cameroonian cities.

Another road project is that of Douala (the Eastern one) that will streamline the traffic for those coming out of the economic capital to the Centre, East and North regions. On this model, a second path will also facilitate the entry of travellers and goods to Bamenda.

In the hinterland, shovels and bulldozers are all active. 61.85% of the Ngaoundere-Garoua road reconstruction has been carried out. 67% of the Foumban-Manki (40 km long) route has already been made. The rest is expected by June 2015.

The Ndop-Kumbo (60.5 km) Ring Road section is almost completed (96.31%). The Obala-Batchenga-Bouam road is in its first segment. In the South there is the construction of the Zoétélé-Nkolyop route (27.4 km), the bridge on Lobo to Zouameyong and development of the Namboodiri-Yekombo crossroads on the loop of the ADI.

Even though there is no detail on the actual work, it is certain that at the end of the three-year timetable for this special operation, asphalt will be a common reality.
