Governors’ Conference: Minadt encourages continuity of public service

The governors of the ten regions of Cameroon had a conference to affirm their hierarchy in order to maintain alertness, in Yaoundé.

René Emmanuel Sadi, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation (MINATD), recommended the continuity of public service despite the difficult security conditions.

The Minister encouraged his employees to manage the development projects undertaken across the country. Even though the meeting was stronger on territorial management, governors discussed several other topics. Their power to sanction was recalled after the establishment of the regional disciplinary councils. This empowerment is intended to enable the takeover of public officials by the heads of administrative units.

The governors also pointed out measures on safeguarding endangered areas in Cameroon. Some suffer abuses such as poaching, illegal gold mining, illegal logging of wood, pollution of rivers, the visionary award land titles in protected areas, etc.

The fight against terrorism should not divert attention from the equally important topics, recommended the Minadt. Also he suggested the development of these economic areas to create jobs. During their conference in Yaoundé, the governors discussed the challenges of this sector with the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife. But on the ground, some are facing absurd situations like the juxtaposition on the same space, mining titles, forestry and agro-industrial and conflict.

Another difficult problem that manages the territorial command was play structures. A cunning sector where the trend is cheating and opacity. By means of Law No. 2015/12 of July 18, 2015 establishing the rules of the games, governors now have a way to regain control of the situation. This text offers solutions to inadequate checks and exposure to minors.

André Mama Fouda, Minister of Public Health, also urged Regional Governors to ensure the prohibition of Tramadol. The drug, he said, acts directly on the nervous system and is thought to be used to exploit the perpetrators of attacks by Boko Haram. The governors have done well with the fight on several fronts and their homeland remains grateful. Three governors left Yaoundé with the rewards of the Republic.

Under May 20, 2015, Bernard Okalia Bilai (Southwest), Samuel Ivaha Diboua (East) and Jean Abaté Edi'i (North) respectively received medals of ‘Grand Officer of dignity’, ‘Commander of the National Order value’ and ‘Officer of the National Order of the value’.
