Government revisits development projects in Bakassi

The Coordination and Follow-up Committee for the implementation of priority projects in the Bakassi Peninsula met in its 17th Session on 19th September 2014.

The Committee’s Chairperson, Ndoh Bertha Bakata and members converged at the Prime Minister’s Office in Yaounde to evaluate the rate of execution of projects earmarked for 2014.

Madame Ndoh Bertha stressed on more commitment to improve on social amenities in the domains of potable water, electricity, health, education and security.

The fifteen Ministries involved in the implementation of public investment projects in the Bakassi Peninsula disclosed during the coordination meeting that the estimated sum of CFAF 1,147million will be required to realize 2014 projects in the zone.

Considering the fact that Bakassi is a fishing area, the Committee Chair said the government is set to develop fishery farms and improve on the mastery of maritime and inland fishery production.

She also revealed that 69.4 million CFAF has been allocated for the construction of roads in four councils and 9.3 million CFAF in the realization of healthcare facilities in the Bakassi Peninsula.

It is worth indicating that the Cameroon government regained complete sovereignty over the Bakassi Peninsula on 14th August 2014 from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
