Government reacts after Saturday night attack in Maroua

In a unusually prompt reaction, the Cameroonian Government through its Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, invited the people of Maroua in particular and Cameroon in general, to keep calm and stay in serenity. The Government also invited people to collaborate with security forces in denouncing all suspicious persons.

In the release which reached Cameroon - info.NET, the Government extended its condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. It also reiterated the government's commitment to ensure the safety of all and put an end to the atrocities of the Islamist sect Boko Haram in Cameroon.

In order to lay hands on these terrorists or accomplices of the suicide attack that struck in the evening, security forces surrounded a place called green bridge where the attack occurred Saturday night. Meanwhile, searches and arrests are ongoing in that part of the city.

As operations are ongoing, the government indicated that the suspected suicide bomber of Saturday night is a girl of about 14 years and had almost the same characteristics as the other girls who caused the explosion of Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Maroua Central market.

In terms of casualties, the reporter of Cameroon - info.net present at the premises of the Regional Hospital of Maroua in the company of the administrative authorities of the city recorded 19 dead and many others with severe injuries. This however suggests that the death toll could rise.
