Gov’t intensify efforts to free kidnapped hostages

Cameroon is intensifying efforts to free the two Italian priests and a Canadian Rev. Sister who were kidnapped from their place of residence in Tcheré, Méri Subdivision, Diamaré Division some 16km from Maroua, Far North region by unidentified heavily armed gunmen on April 4.

So far, there has been no official demand from the kidnappers but reports say the assailants took the hostages east ward toward the Pette Subdivision, a difficult terrain that leads to the wide Waza National Park, with hopes of whisking them off easily into Nigeria.

Operating in total discretion, an impressive detachment of the military have been deployed and the zone where it is suspected that the hostages are being kept has been circumscribed.

The different segments of the military, working in close collaboration with the very reputable Rapid Intervention Battalion have mounted guard on air and on land.

Also, the Maroua-Mora-Waza-Kousseri stretch is under total surveillance and control has been intensified making any attempt to smuggle the hostages into Nigeria almost impossible with the recapture of the missing men and woman of top priority.

While the search intensifies, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defense has assured Christians of the Tchere-Tchakidjebe diocese who wait impatiently for a happy end to an unfortunate incident.
