The Divisional Officer, DO of Douala V has banned the Cameroon Renaissance Movement political party of Maurice Kamto from holding political rallies in his jurisdiction.
Jean Marie Tchakui Noundie issued the ban following a declaration by the party’s official, of intentions to hold rallies during which petitions for the “consensual modification” of the electoral code were to be written.
The DO, in the ban note addressed to Daniel Nouboussi, Communal Federation Secretary of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement for Douala five, prohibited the party from organizing planned rallies in the Parcour Vita, Rhone Poulene and Antenne neighbourhoods in Douala this month.
The civil administrator, in the same letter orders the commissioners of 12th and 10th public security police districts to ensure that the ban is respected.
Political Mounde, a political analyst has condemned the ban, saying that “they authorize grand rallies in Douala, Ebolowa and Bafoussam as well as youth marches and belly dance parades when they are calling on an 83-year old president to regain his rigour of ’82 and thank him… DOs, SDOs, and governors muzzle the opposition, block democracy in the country and get rewarded with cars.
