Global Fund supports malaria fight with 51 billion

The Global Fund has contributed an amount of 51 million CFA F to fight the disease for the 2015-2017 period. This was granted on the occasion of the 8th World Malaria Day celebrated recently.

The Minister of Health (MOH), André Mama Fouda, challenged all Cameroonians to sleep under insecticide-treated nets. Place on the theme: "invest in the future: defeat malaria", André Mama Fouda, reiterated that, the fight is possible only if the total funding is commensurate with the needs.

It is in this perspective that the Global Fund for malaria placed at the disposal of Cameroon, F 51 billion for the period of 2015-2017. "With our partners, we decided to go to universal coverage for the protection of families against mosquito bites", noted the MOH.

Thanks to this funding, a second mass campaign for the distribution of more than 12 million ITNs will be organized throughout the territory. "One on two Cameroonians should sleep under a mosquito net," reiterated André Mama Fouda.

So the first phase which begins June will target four areas: East, Northwest, South and Southwest. While the second will target the North and the third stage: Centre, Littoral, and West.

This is to consolidate previous achievements from 2010 to 2014, related hospital admissions moved from 36% to less than 30%. There was also a decline of 0.5% in 2010 to 0.22 percent in 2015 at the national level. Among children less than five years, the rate of mortality due to malaria lies today at 0.3%.
