General Babacar Gaye ends visit in Cameroon after talks

The special representative of the Secretary General of the UN for the CAR, General Babacar Gaye, was received Tuesday at the MINREX.

"I came for consultation in Cameroon and this isn't my first visit. I have the duty to keep close relations with CEEAC which is a major player in the management of the Central African crisis, revealed General Babacar Gaye, special representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Central African Republic at the end of his working visit made to the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo.

"I came to see the Minister to make the point with him from what we have been able to achieve together. He also played an essential role during the Brazzaville Summit", the UN diplomat added.

Asked on issues that were particularly mentioned at the meeting with the Minister of External Relations, general Babacar Gaye said: "we mainly talked about the situation in CAR and subsequently the Summit in Brazzaville.

"We also talked about the security situation and its developments, including the next development of the peacekeeping Mission.

Indeed, the multidimensional mission integrated the United Nations for stabilization in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) will take, September 15, 2014, the relay from the International Mission of support for the Central African Republic (MISCA) under African leadership.

Through resolution 2149 of 10 April which set up this Mission, the UN Security Council confided to the MINUSCA the mandate to execute immediately after the adoption of the resolution 'the tasks prescribed in the middle of its civilian component".

On 15 September, it will therefore begin execution of its military and police.

Having a multidimensional character as indicated by its name, the mandate of the MINUSCA gives multiple tasks, ranging from the protection of civilians in the disarmament, demobilization, rehabilitation, reintegration and repatriation, by the way, inter alia, through support to the implementation of the transition to the extension of the authority of the State and to the maintenance of the territorial integrity, the promotion and protection of human rights and actions in favour of national and international justice and the rule of law.
