French senator hails Paul Biya’s role in COP 21

Visiting French Senator representing French nationals established out of France, Jean-Yves Leconte, has hailed President Paul Biya’s contribution to the success of COP 21 Climate Change Summit which just ended in Paris, France and for mobilising Africa around the “ambitious and compelling” agreement that was the outcome of the conference.

The French Senator told the press after a meeting with the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella on December 14, 2015 in Yaounde that they reviewed flourishing France-Cameroon bilateral ties highlighted in recent times by several meetings between both Heads of State and ministers. Stating the purpose of his visit to Cameroon, Jean-Yves Leconte said he was visiting French nationals in Cameroon to brief them on security challenges faced in France and on security measures taken. During such meetings, he edified the French people on ensuring security of schools and of the French community.

“I also want to meet with Barrister Lydienne Eyoum before Christmas to give her my human support because it is important for me to make sure that she is in good condition,” he also disclosed, responding to press speculations that his visit was related to the liberation of Barrister Lydienne Eyoum, a Cameroonian-born French national who is serving a 25-jail term handed by the Special Criminal Court on charges of embezzling over FCFA 1 billion representing recovered SGBC Bank debts.

The verdict was confirmed on appeal by a Supreme Court ruling on June 9, 2015. Barrister Eyoum’s case was one of the issues discussed between President Paul Biya and French President, François Hollande, during the latter’s visit to Cameroon on July 3, 2015. “I have trust in the implementation of what both Presidents discussed,” Senator Leconte added.
