France 'touched and saddened' by attacks in Far North

France “condemns the terrorist attacks on August 4 in the far north, in which ten people were killed and dozens of others, including children and adolescents ,displaced,” according to a statement released this Wednesday, August 5.

"Those responsible should not go unpunished," said the statement from the Quai-d’Orsay.

"We extend our condolences to the victims' families and assure the authorities and the people of Cameroon of our solidarity. France "supports the fight" of the States around the Lake Chad region against terrorism and stands alongside them.

As a reminder, the last attack by Boko Haram has killed about 10 people including hundreds reported missing. Cameroonian authorities recently announced the deployment of 2,000 additional troops to fight against the Islamists in the Far North.

These reinforcements will officially be 8,500 soldiers in total, sent to the region which has been the scene of deadly suicide bombings. Maroua was the target of at least 5 attacks in recent days, where dozens of people were killed.
