France offers 262m FCFA to support Boko Haram victims

The Cameroonian and French Red Cross has joined hands to support the victims of the abuses of the Boko Haram sect in the region of Far North of Cameroon.

This partnership of the Cameroon Red Cross and France that seeks to support Boko Haram victims was signed on April 23 in Yaoundé.

An emergency program has been set up to promote access to quality health care for women and children under five years old from refugees, IDPs and host populations of Maga health districts, Bogo, Hina and Meri, in the region affected by the attacks of Boko Haram.

For this purpose, the Ambassador of France in Cameroon, Christine Robichon, and the president of the Cameroon Red Cross, William Aurélien Etéki Mboumoua have signed a partnership agreement at the institution's headquarters in Yaounde.

"The contribution that we have raised via this agreement total 262 million CFA francs that is brought by France to the Cameroon Red Cross, to work with its partners the French Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross, "said the head of the French diplomatic mission in Cameroon.

This whole program covers aspects of nutrition, health, and in particular the possibility for pregnant women to give birth in favorable medical conditions, especially through materials used for caesarean section to be awarded in this area health centers.

"Once again, France confirms that it is up to the Cameroon side to respond to the threat by Boko Haram to meet in terms of security and defense. It is up to the Cameroon side to also respond to humanitarian needs created by the crisis, "said Christine Robichon.

The President of the Cameroon Red Cross meanwhile, welcomed this support but said he hopes that this cooperation will continue.
