Fighting Boko Haram: Special mass offered in Yaounde

A special mass has been organised to pray for the armed forces engaged in fighting Boko Haram and for peace in Cameroon.

The mass characterised by special prayers, a homily and the Holy Eucharist took place this 4th March 2015 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory in Yaounde.

The Bishop of Mbalmayo, Aldabert Ndzana in delivering the homily, called on Cameroonians to pray and sacrifice for peace. He emphasised on this making allusion to one of the Beatitudes which says, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.”

The Cleric also reiterated that the turbulent period of the Boko Haram insurgency will pass away, since Jesus gave us his peace before leaving the world.

His Lordship Aldabert Ndzana also exhorted Cameroonians to pray for the armed forces, displaced persons, refugees and other casualties of the Boko Haram insurrection.

During the special mass, the Arch Bishop of the Yaounde Archdiocese, His Lordship Jean Mbarga together with the other officiating Bishops, members of the armed forces and Christians interceded for those combatting the terrorist sect and the reign of peace in Cameroon.

The Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Laurent Esso was the special representative of the Head of State at the special ceremony. Representatives of the Orthodox Church, top government officials and men and women of the military corps were also present at the holy gathering.
