Fight against Boko Haram: Two suspects arrested in Bertoua

Police Police

Two girls named Gouem Zenabou, aged 17, and Djeko Mounira, 13 years, of Burkinabe origin have been arrested by the police in Bertoua on suspicion of being members of Boko Haram.

According to their statements, they were on their way to Yaoundé to meet one of their compatriots, a certain Ibrahim, whom they had contacted on phone.

In order to get to their destination, Gouem Zenabou and Djeko Mounira went through Nigeria from Burkina Faso without an escort. After a check-in at Bertoua on Saturday, they continued by bus at Danay Express, a travel company.

But their behaviours drew the attention of others. Their actions were similar to ‘robots’ as explained by the regional delegate of National Security and Eastern Gendarmerie Commander during a security meeting chaired by the Governor, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, on July 23, 2015.

Thus an informant quickly informed the regional delegate of the National Security who hurried to the scene at the central police in Bertoua, located not far from the travel agency. The girls were then apprehended.

They were left in the hands of agents of the national security and spent their weekend in Bertoua. They were heard on Monday, July 27, and sent to Yaoundé where their statements will be judiciously exploited.
