Far North security heightened during parade

Administrative authorities of the Far North region who fear a major attack from the Islamic sect Boko Haram fighters on May, 20, 2015 have tightened security.

According to information received by "koaci" fearing an attack from Abubakar Shekau’s men, the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakary and his security council have strengthened surveillance measures in villages and localities threatened by Boko Haram attacks.

This is to prepare for any mishappening at the 43rd National Unity Day held in the town themed "the Defence Forces, in synergy with the vibrant forces of the nation, to meet the security challenges and maintain peace and stability in Cameroon and Central Africa".

The news of a possible Boko Haram attack has meanwhile spread like wildfire in Fotokol.

“We learnt that Boko Haram fighters had spread over the Firma village in Cameroon located about 7 kilometers from Fotokol, (Department of Logone-Et-Chari, Extreme North region), since May 16" a resident of Fotokol stated via phone.

The army has as a result reinforced security since the Islamic sect reclaimed the town of Marte in Nigeria, a border town in Cameroon.

Some strategists in the army believe the Islamic sect could strike to make an impression, and demonstrate that it is not weakened on May, 20, 2015 "It is not only in the Far North that we fear attacks. Even the gangs from CAR, may conduct raids for cattle rustling or taking hostages”, another source informed Koaci.

The 43rd edition of the National Unity party is taking place in a setting that involves tight security since it’s been a little bit more than a year that Paul Biya as the head of government declared war against the Islamist sect from the Palais de l’Elysée.

Monitoring is required all over the country. In Yaoundé where the parade was held at 10 o'clock, the military parade presided over by Paul Biya, security forces were on maximum alert.

A contingent of the Chadian army who support the defense forces and Cameroonian security, was also acknowledged in Yaoundé during the opening the parade.
