The Governor of the Far North region, Midjiyawa Bakari handed materials to vigilance committees in his region on November 2, 2015, to enable them act alongside the Cameroonian army to fight against the Nigerian sect, Boko Haram.

They were "armed" with machetes, arrows, lamp torches, vests, whistles, boots, airtime and metal detectors to ensure safety for the people of the region especially those in border cities who receive daily visits by fighters Nigerian sect.

The materials received from the governor of the Far North should not only be used to watch over the people of the region but will also be used by members of vigilance committees to protect themselves, because they too are often victims of attacks by assailants.

On August 4, 8 people, including members of the vigilance committee, were killed at night during a raid in the village of Tchakarmari by Boko Haram. Despite the death of some of them, the vigilance committee in Kangaleri, had pursued the attackers inside Nigeria.

Also, we remember the night of 17 to 18 January, when are dozens of Boko Haram members were arrested and handed to the defense and security forces. Since their establishment, the Far North vigilance committees have already foiled suicide attacks. The groups consisting mainly of young volunteers deserve all the support not only of the state but also of the population.
