BIR post BIR post

Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked the Achigaschia town in the Far North Region early Tuesday morning.

The attacks registered dozens of death while a soldier was killed.

The military post of the Motorized infantry battalion (BIM) was targeted by a hundred assailants on the front line associated to Boko Haram militants. It was a rare intensified fight which lasted for more than five hours and caused dozens of deaths. At the moment, the situation has returned to normal.

In this locality with difficult access, attached to Mount Mandara which delimits the border between Cameroon and Nigeria, the violent fight ended about 8 o'clock in the morning.

A military source informed BBC that the soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion arrived on the scene at about 4 o'clock in the morning and finally reversed the trend in favour of the Cameroonian military.

According to this source, for the first time, the attackers used horses as a means of locomotion.

According to the same source, a Cameroonian soldier was killed and another wounded while ten bodies of suspected Boko Haram militants were still lying in the Savannah. This result has not yet been confirmed by official sources.
Rating operations continue at Achigashia under the control of the army.
