Far North: 413 nigerians 'without papers' repatriated from Cameroon

413 Nigerians without citizenship documents in Cameroon were expelled to Nigeria on yesterday.

The Nigerians who were expelled were part of those driven from N'Djamena to Kousseri two weeks ago and those who resided in Kousseri without documents.

According to administrative authority of the far North, "It is a measure that is aimed at combating terrorism particularly, Boko Haram. But Cameroon is not the only country to repatriate those without documents. Chad did same a few days ago. The other countries of the sub-region are taking similar measures."

However, the Nigerians who were sacked unawares were carefully escorted by the Cameroonian defense forces across safeguarded roads to the locality of the Mayo Oulo, on the Cameroonian border, where they crossed to the Nigerian town of Mubi.

Many of the repatriated Nigerians regretted this forced discharge measure. "I have lived in Kousseri for over 9 years where I have established my business. '' My life is in Cameroon. The Islamists have killed my family members in Nigeria. I am not reassured of my safety in Nigeria. I'm going to prepare the necessary documents and I will return to Cameroon," said Alhadji Buba.

According to the Embassy of Nigeria in Cameroon, almost 4 million Nigerians live in Cameroon with half of this figure in Douala. In the northern regions, it is difficult to come up with a number especially with the porosity of the borders.
