Fame Ndongo meets proprietors

The confab in Buea will be attended by representatives from English-speaking regions.

Proprietors of higher education institutions (PHEI) from the North West and South West Regions and the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) begin a two-day conference in Buea, capital of the South West, today, 27 April, 2015.

The joint confab on the theme; “Restitution missions of 2014 academic inspections and strengthening the capacities of PHEIs in quality approach,” comes on the heels of a thorough academic assessment of privately-run institutions of higher learning carried out in 2014 by MINESUP.

Following the inspection, pressing concerns were expressed by operators of PHEIs, which are expected to be addressed during the Buea conference. Above all, the quality and credibility of learning dispensed in PHEIs will take centre-stage of discussions while MINESUP will give policy orientations to managers of a sector that remains dear to the State.

The invitation of the Vice Chancellors of State Universities of Bamenda and Buea to the conference highlights unequivocally the importance that MINESUP attaches to the confab.

Topics on the Buea meeting include a report of the assessment missions, capacity building of PHEIs in quality approach, the relevance and significance of PHEIs in higher professional education in Cameroon, and mentorship of PHEIs by State and accredited foreign universities.

While designating the theme, the Ministry of Higher Education equally appointed Reverend Father George Nkeze Jingwa (PhD) of the Catholic University Institute of Buea as coordinator of the conference, by Dr. Arrey Paul Abunaw of the University College of Technology Buea.

A keynote address from the Minister of Higher Education will set the ball rolling while the Inspector General of Academics and the Inspector of Academics Number One in MINESUP will convey the Ministry’s mind at the workshop.
