The first project in the three-year emergency plan in the Adamawa region is a refrigerated slaughterhouse worth FC FA 10 billion that the government decided to build at Ngaoundere.

With a cattle herd almost the largest in the country, especially since the war against Boko Haram and the conflict in the Central African Republic to push many farmers to take up residence, the Adamawa region had no industrial slaughterhouse .The butchers are merely exercising their handcrafted art. The imminent industrial slaughterhouse construction will be at Wakoua, a suburb of Ngaoundere.

It was revealed during the Prime Minister’s visit at the construction site of the new refrigerated warehouse in Yaoundé neighborhood of Etoudi. This has already brought happiness as many job seekers are at the front door of the north officials of the beef industry and households which have had enough of the rotten meat on the market stalls of Ngaoundere.

The complex will comprise, besides the main building of the industrial slaughterhouse, a cold store dimensioned for the daily needs of 500 000 or 50 000 kg of meat, ancillary buildings, parking areas, 9 refrigerated trucks will be acquired after the construction and various refrigerated vans to distribute to the markets.

With the new industrial slaughterhouse, livestock of the Adamawa region is estimated at about 1.6 million cattle heads. The meats are mostly prized by farmers and consumers in Goudani purchase it for its milk production and abundance of its meat which is a real treat for the palate.

The Government assures, through the agricultural sector boss, Dr. Taiga, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA), the construction of the industrial slaughterhouse at Wakoua in Ngaoundere will take 12 months at most. The construction will be done by the Spanish group, Emmsa which was commissioned to build this abattoir.
