While in Yaoundé, the executive secretary of the Commission for the Lake Chad Basin (LCBC), Sanusi Imran Abdullah paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for the Presidency in charge of Defence (MINDEF) in Yaounde.

During an audience of nearly thirty minutes, Sanusi Imran Abdullah and Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o exchanged views on the development of the Lake Tchad, now facing gradual drying and insecurity including Cameroon's participation in the fight against the terrorist sect Boko Haram that sows fear and desolation in the region.

The guest of MINDEF praised the contribution made by Cameroon in terms of troops and strategy in the fight against the jihadist threat in the area.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Imran Abdullah said the operationalization of the joint multinational force "is already in place in N'Djamena with a deployment of troops provided by member States. The operationalization of its headquarters is already up."

As for the trend of Boko Haram on suicide bombing attacks, alluding to the attacks in the Chadian capital, the Executive Secretary of the LCBC reported that the fundamentalists have not changed their tactics from the barbaric methods they were using. "Their military arsenal was destroyed. Boko Haram has recorded heavy losses. They can act now through acts of this nature."

About the location or whereabouts of Abubakar Shekau, the leader of this terrorist group, he stressed that investigations were in progress whether the jihadi leader is already dead or not. "The news reaching us from the intelligence services is that the first Shekau is alive. We wait to prove it. But according to some sources, he no longer exists. We are conducting investigations to have a little more clarification," he said.
