Cameroon’s electrical energy production deficit has been reaching daily highs of 100 MW since the start of 2015, which coincides with the dry season when water levels in the dams used by Energy of Cameroon (Eneo), the public electricity provider, fall considerably.

This figure revealed by the government daily publication concerns primarily the interconnected south network (RIS), which excludes Cameroon’s northern region.

In order to address the shortage, which is expected to last at least until March 2015, the electricity company and the Cameroonian authorities decided to implement emergency measures such as re-opening the 60 MW Ahala thermal plant run by the British company, Aggreko.
