CEO of Eneo, Joel Nana Kontchou, has promised to submit a short term plan of action to the government for the management of low water levels which resulted in the energy crisis in Cameroon.

The head of the main operator of the electricity sector said he has "taken all appropriate and necessary measures in order to manage the low water levels in Cameroon by 2016 and 2017.”

From May to June 2015, the country was rocked by severe energy crisis that affected the South Interconnected Network from May 22 to June 10, 2015 and this materialized into serious power cuts across several cities.

Kontchou who came out to officially justify the crisis stated that "there was an exceptional hydrological deficit due to the late arrival of rains at this time of the year and the unavailability of certain thermal structures (including central Ahala).”

He made this speech after the public accused the electricity company workers of incompetence.

When he took the position as the head of Eneo, Nana Kontchou promised to work hand in hand with stakeholders to end power cuts within a “short term” during a debate on a private radio station.
