Eneo announces three weeks of power interruption

A release from the company in charge of electricity in Cameroon, Eneo, read on-air over the Crtv 1pm newscast May 28, 2015 and also available on the website of the company announces probable interruption of electricity distribution for a period of three weeks.

Due to a severe depletion of water in our reservoirs, electrical service in our country witnessed interruption since May 23, 2015. Between April 23 and May 26, 2015, we recorded on the Sanaga, an unusual deficit in the order of 1 billion six hundred million meters cubic of water, compared to the same period last year.

In the face of this critical situation, our hydroelectric dams of Songloulou and Edea are unable to guarantee a level of power that can meet the current demand for electricity.

This imbalance is likely to generate power for a depth up to 80MW, particularly at peak hours. Best forecast of specialists say it will take between 2 and 3 weeks to see the natural flow of the Sanaga River regain its normal course and feed our dams.

Beyond this period, only the state of the network-related incidents should be sources of disturbance.

Eneo and governments are poised to find solutions. Similarly, they thanked partners who have agreed to partially stall to reduce the impact of this crisis on households and businesses. Eneo recommends that customers switch off power in unoccupied rooms and unplug sensitive appliances.
