Employers denounce "cleaning hours" on a working day

As of today October 1, 2014, a day of cleanliness was established in the municipality of Douala 1, one of the most important in the economic capital of Cameroon.

According to that decision taken by the Mayor Lengué Malapa, on Wednesdays from 6 am to 9 am, populations and companies located in this municipality are required to comply with this provision, under pain of penalties or seizure of goods.

All "Welcoming the decision of the Mayor of Douala 1 to establish a day of cleanliness", companies of Cameroon (Ecam), a management group focused on the development of SMEs, "was surprised" that to put in place his decision, Mayor Lengué Malapa "threatened businesses, and deprived them of their natural right and work duty.» revealed Protais Ayangma, president of Ecam, in a statement released following the decision of the Mayor.

Following this decision of the Mayor, the Ecam labour movement warns the Mayor of Douala 1 against the dismissals of employees resulting from the implementation of this visionary decision, warns the president of Ecam.

Recalling that "management of hygiene, safety and cleanliness of a city or a district more generally is the responsibility and the competence of the decentralized local communities", and that "companies, in this regard, carry out a significant contribution by the payment of duties and taxes.
