Eid plus honor of killed soldiers, a country in joy and pain

Fallen Soldiers Fallen Soldiers

Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo'o, the Minister delegate at the Presidency of the Republic responsible for defence (Mindef), paid tribute to six Cameroonian soldiers, who died during the Emergence and Alpha operations on Friday, July 17, 2015.

The ceremony took place at the courtyard of the headquarters in Yaoundé. Two officers, a Warrant Officer and a Sergeant, both died in Bargaraim in June 2014 in connection with the Emergence and Alpha operation. Four other military officers were killed on May 2, 2015 at Zelevet-Borough of Mayo Moskota, Mayo-Tsanaga Department (Far North). They were all awarded the Medal of Valour.

The tribute ceremony took place on the same day of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of fasting in the month of Ramadan. On the extent of the attack on the Cameroonian territory, the Imams during their sermons unanimously condemned the suicide bombers attacks in Fotokol in the far north of the country, which led to 13 deaths and 7 wounded.

Religious dignitaries, conveying the message of peace and tolerance advocated by Islam, explained to the Muslim faithful the need to unveil their 'hands and faces’. And also to comply with the prohibition of the wearing of the burqa, as it is the case in some localities of the country, particularly in the far North and the Noun (West).

Throughout the territory, security measures have been tight at the entrance of each place of worship. No major incidents were reported.
