Inhabitants in the Eastern Region have stated that there is no trace of electricity even though the first phase of impoundment of Lom Pangar, the largest dam in Cameroon, was launched on September 26.

This project was meant to increase and regulate electricity production nationally.

A component of this project focuses on the energy opening-up of the Eastern Region which is very far behind the rest of the country in terms of electricity. This is a situation that has worsened over the past twenty years. Reports.

When we arrived at Batouri for the first time, we met darkness and we were attracted by loud noises. Not the familiar case in Cameroonian cities where huge speakers spew the latest hits.

These noises heard were hundreds of generators that allow this Eastern prefecture of Cameroon to feel as though they are part of the 21st century.

There was a time where the inhabitants of this gold town experienced the comfort of stable and continuous electricity. They are hopeful that the use of generators to provide electricity would soon be over. Also, though the people have been assured that the problem will soon end, they are not sure about the exact date.
