ECCAS united to foster culture

Ministers of Culture of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) have presented a draft sub regional strategy for the development and promotion of culture in Central Africa.

The proposed strategy was presented during a meeting on 30th October, 2014 in Yaounde.

During the forum chaired by Cameroon’s Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna participants reaffirmed culture’s cornerstone position in socio-economic growth in the sub region.

The draft sub regional strategy consists of multidimensional factors:

-Aid to actors in the culture sector to live in their art

-Making culture the centre of interest to ECCAS heads of states

-Adoption of a strategy in fighting piracy

-Development of local entrepreneurship

-Fight against poverty

Minister Ama Tutu Muna noted that the strategy will help in the creation of multinational enterprises in the culture sector, through the human, material and financial resource contributions from states in the sub region.

The Deputy Secretary General of ECCAS, Jaime Sangale Rondo also mentioned that the sub regional scheme will guide member states in shaping their cultural policies especially in aspects like training and budgeting.

Cameroon Culture Minister disclosed that the proposed sub regional cultural strategy is pending adoption by ECCAS Heads of States later in a meeting scheduled for Ndjamena, Chad.
