Ambassador Ahmad Allam-Mi, Secretary General of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), has expressed his dismay at the suicide bombings and terrorist attacks that occurred in Maroua in Cameroon on 22 and 25 July 22 and 25 making a total of more than 30 dead and a hundred wounded.

"Once again, the General Secretariat of ECCAS condemns, in the strongest terms, these barbaric and cowardly acts directed against innocent civilians while the trauma of the attacks in N'Djamena and Fotokol was still fresh in the memories of the people,” said the Secretary General of ECCAS in a statement published onGabonactu.com.

The General Secretariat noted that these barbaric acts confirmed the significant change the terrorist group, Boko Haram has carried out. This new strategy is to sow terror in the Lake Chad region through suicide attacks after its fighting capabilities were weakened by energetic actions of Cameroonian and Chadian armies.

"These new terrorist attacks confirms the need for all state actors, subregional, regional and international to find urgent solutions; comprehensive and tailored to the problem of terrorism in the in the Lake Chad area in particular and Sahel-Saharan Africa in general," the statement said.

"Countries at the ‘front line’ including Chad and Cameroon, who are already making admirable efforts, deserve more support and from bilateral and multilateral partners,” advised the boss of ECCAS.

"The Secretariat General of ECCAS spoke on the next ECOWAS - ECCAS Summit in August, which will focus mainly on the fight against terrorism and the eradication of Boko Haram. It will also renew its commitment to contribute, alongside the Member States, in all actions to be undertaken in this direction," added the text through which the institution of regional integration sent “its sincere condolences and support to the government and people of Cameroon, families of the victims, whom he asked not to yield to discouragement and to intensify efforts in the fight against the terrorist group, Boko Haram."
