Duke of Edinburg to be special guest at National Youth Day

On 11th February 2016, Cameroon will celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Youth Day. In prelude to the event the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education has been evaluating the previous edition and making preparations to give the Jubilee the grandeur it deserves.

During the meeting in Yaounde, Regional Delegates of Youth Affairs and Civic Education from each of the ten regions took turns to give a balance sheet of the 49th edition of National Youth Day on 11th February 2015 in their respective jurisdictions. Despite some minor hitches, the celebration was globally satisfactory.

The role of partner ministers and other stakeholders that led to the success of the event was saluted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Pierre Ismael Bidoung Mpkatt.

In the build-up to the Jubilee, the Secretary General of the International Youth Merit, which is promoted by the Duke of Edinburg, is due to pay a three visit to Cameroon from the 15th to the 18th July 2015.

Minister Bidoung Mpkatt has urged his collaborators to professionally prepare the visit which will contribute in confirming the visit of the Duke of Edinburg to Cameroon as special guest 50th anniversary of National Youth Day.

The meeting to prepare of the Golden Jubilee of the National Youth Day also sought to intensify the civic education in the country through adjustments in strategy.

The Minister indicated that 4000 peer educators have already been trained while 6000 others are still in school equipping them selves with innovative, audacious and practical skills best suited for promoting civic education amongst peers.

He said the promotion of civic educations seeks to make Cameroon an exemplary country which is respected abroad and where wealth is equitably distributed.
