Drug shortage hits Cameroon

Pharmacy Pharmacy

Several pharmaceutical and medical institutions in Cameroon have been hit by a shortage of medicines, including anti-retroviral and vaccines over the past few days, APA can report in Douala on Wednesday.

A tour of health facilities in the city reveals the extent of the suffering of patients such as AIDS sufferers unable to secure antiretroviral drugs.

The shortage is also felt by people with kidney failures requiring dialysis.

This situation has caused discontent among sick people who have threatened to take to the streets despite assurances from the authorities at the referral hospital that normalcy will be restored within the week.

The central drug procurement has sought to reassure the public that the vaccines are available and that the problem lies in the supply chain.
