Drug, alcohol intake among students high

Hundreds of pupils were expelled from school establishments for consumption of drug and alcohol abuse. During the school holidays, young people carried out criminal acts under the influence of drug, crimes which multiplied in an exponential way, during the weeks preceding the school re-entry.

Maroua in the area of the Extreme north Cameroon was the dramatic theatre of one of the most recent cases. A 17 year old boy was stabbed by his friend under the harmful influence of the tramol, a drug sold in a compressed form in pharmacies in the street.

In Yaounde and Douala, the facts are reported with the newspaper. The school establishments, sometimes most considered, are not saved. Vis-a-vis the recrudescence of violence due to the consumption of alcohol and drug in the schools, the authorities were mobilized with the support of associations of parents of pupils.

During the second week of classes, students at a college in Yaounde were found in possession of drug in their bags. A message from the sub-committee of international co-operation of the national committee of fight against drug was transmitted to the pupils of Yaounde

To track illicit drug, alcohol and the other substances in the provided education for young people, to prevent criminality or to fight against the racket and the aggressions against pupils and students, is partly the mission of this unit for which the persons in charge were named in Yaounde, during the preceding school year.

In the other areas of the country, this work is ensured by the closest units of police force, following the example of the stations of public safety disseminated in the large cities. These units work in close cooperation with the persons in charge for the school establishments and associations of parents.
