Douala mobilizes against Ebola fever

Students in the department of medicine and pharmacy at the université des Montagnes (UDM) carried out an awareness campaign against the Ebola virus.

Before an attentive crowd, future physicians and employees supported by Camrail revealed that "Bolloré Africa Logistics subsidiaries to Cameroon and the université des Montagnes (UDM) are mobilizing against the deadly virus Ebola, in Douala. "This is to raise awareness on the endemic Ebola" they said.

They made the people know that as concerns the Ebola virus disease there's no specific treatment at the moment, but rather a symptomatic treatment which was introduced in health centres to increases the chances of survival of a victim.

Given its complexity, there is the need to prevent this disease which has wiped out families in some African countries, notably Liberia. It is important to inform the Cameroonian population which for the moment has been spared from the scourge of this disease.

During this awareness campaign, it was made known that Ebola fever comes from bats and other animals found in our forests. It is transmitted by contact with the secretions from dead animals, sick and deceased persons.

Symptoms that can appear two days after contact with contaminated people range from fever, nausea, headache, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, and bleeding. As a measure of prevention, avoid touching or handling or eating dead game. They admonished all to wash hands with soap, and avoid contact with secretions, public funeral rites and traditional autopsies.

Faced with the need to prevent this disease, Bolloré Africa Logistics gives out its supports through CAMRAIL which launched an awareness campaign, moderated by the medical students of the université des Montagnes (UDM).

The delegation of the UDM, consisting of 20 medical students and teachers of the said Faculty, will educate the public on the Ebola virus disease: its origins, its symptoms, the means of prevention and the modalities of support for a suspect case.

This week of awareness initiated by Bolloré Africa Logistics in Cameroon participates in the national effort for the preservation of the disease in the Cameroonian territory against the Ebola virus disease. Bolloré Africa Logistics contributes alongside the State to curb this disease.
