The public can now receive care at the Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatric Hospital which was opened by the Minister of Health (MOH), André Mama Fouda, in Douala.

"I am pleased to announce to the people of the economic capital of the Littoral Region and to all Cameroonians that the new Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatric Hospital in Douala has been completed. The hospital is ready to receive patients, primarily the mother and child, from August 25, 2015. Cameroonians can be proud of this hospital which is one of the largest in Central Africa, specializing in diseases of women and children,” announced André Mama Fouda, after a working visit to Hgoped yesterday.

The MOH was accompanied by the President of the Board, Honored Denise Sword and the Director General, Prof. Emile Telesphore Mboudou; the two officials installed at Hgoped in December last year.

Others were the officials in the region, including the Governor of the Littoral, Joseph Beti Assomo, who on behalf of the residents of the area, said “thank you” and expressed his satisfaction. “The people were eager to receive care in this institution and the announcement you just made will certainly be very welcomed.”

At the new Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatric Hospital, André Mama Fouda was able to tour the different services of the health facility with a capacity of 303 beds. After, the group of officials converged in a meeting room for the 9th and final session of the steering committee and monitoring of the construction project and equipment for Hgoped.

They assessed the rate of implementation of recommendations from the previous meeting. It included the speed on the work of the entrée road, the arrival of additional medical equipment, connecting the hospital to the urban electricity network, securing of the 7.4 hectre site which must be preserved for development and other infrastructure related to Hgoped; like water supply through the construction of a water tower. Majority were resolved with only a few adjustments.

The main challenge was to retain the flow of communication by language, with a need for translation of documents from Chinese to French or English.
