The Minister of Transport, Robert Nkili, has stated that measures are being‘deliberated’ on by the Cameroonian government to secure regular victims of attack on the Douala -Bangui corridor, according to sources.

This was established after a meeting with the Union of Professional Drivers of Cameroon, who announced a blockade of this pathway from July 29. The drivers are sometimes faced with fatal assaults on the road that links the Douala port to the Central African Republic’s (CAR), capital Bangui

According to the government, “Exporters’ safety is one of the main topics for a diplomatic discussion during a crisis meeting with the UN Mission in the Central African Republic (Minusca) in mid-August."

The truck drivers have resolved to maintaining the strike because after the murder of one of their comrades by the CAR armed gang, the same government had already promised strong measures to protect drivers supplying goods to Central African Republic from the Douala port but those measures have never been applied.

As a reminder, Cameroonian truck drivers decided to block the Douala -Bangui corridor following an assault by rebels which occurred at the CAR territory and has officially reported 4 dead and 11 wounded truck drivers on Saturday.

Protesters required among other things, “robust security guarantees before the resumption of movement on this corridor" ,government of CAR to take immediate action for the purpose of establishing a consultation at highest the peak in Cameroon and CAR with the involvement of Minusca .
