Doctor dies of snake bite in Poli

Dr. Faisal, a surgeon at the Poli Hospital died Tuesday morning, November 4, 2014 after he was bitten by a snake.

According to relatives of the deceased, a cobra was hiding under the pillow of the Medical Officer. The snake thus bit him on Monday night while the doctor was sleeping. "We quickly put him in an ambulance and headed for the regional hospital in Garoua for proper treatment because in the small town of Poli, we do not have anti-venom drugs." said a nurse at the hospital in Poli.

On the way to Garoua, Dr. Faisal died. Practising in a remote town far from the regional hospital in Garoua, the chief doctor Poli could not receive this "serum" an anti- venom that could have saved his life.

This tragedy has led to unending debate in Garoua and its surroundings, as residents cannot believe that, a hospital for a town like Poli does not have serum.
