Abdoulaye Babalé was appointed Director General of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) to replace Mohaman Sani Tanimou after a decree signed by the head of State, Paul Biya, yesterday.
He has been a member of the management of elections and referendum process since January 29, 2009. The newly appointed was consecutively Minister of Town Planning and Housing (1983-1986), Higher Education and Scientific Research (1986-1988) and Higher Education, Information Technology and Scientific Research (1988-1990).
His predecessor, who has been in office since December 2008, is paying for his recurrent battle with the president of the electoral Council, Samuel Fonkam Azu'u, with whom he undertook a battle of legitimacy on decisions involving ELECAM almost three years now.
