Bokwango neighborhood in Buea, was the center of attraction on Friday June 19 following the visit of Ivorian football icon; Didier Drogba to Apostle John Chi’s Ark of God Covenant Ministry, AGCOM.

Drogba made his arrival at about 1am at John Chi’s residence. He was led into Buea by a heavy battalion of security officials escorting him all the way from Douala International Airport where he had alighted from his private jet. He was seen along with his brother and brother’s wife.

Quizzed on what brought him to Cameroon, a rather publicity-shy Drogba told the Cameroon Journal that he came to see his spiritual father, John Chi. “I came to see the Man of God, Apostle John Chi, my spiritual father.”

Drogba who picked out the Cameroon Journal to offer a statement after shoving all attempts by other media to speak to him, described John Chi as a man full of humility and one who has much love for the less privileged. To him, John Chi is an asset to Cameroon. Hear him: “He is a great Man of God, in fact Cameroon is very lucky to have Apostle John Chi,” he said.

Joyce Kimbi Forwaju, John Chi’s public relations officer later told the Journal that Drogba had recommended a purely private visit. Neither Joyce nor Drogba himself could give more details about the visit other than that he came to see his spiritual
father.

The Journal gathered from independent sources, however, that the former Ivorian striker and captain knew Apostle John Chi while he worked as one of TB Joshua’s Wise men at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN in Nigeria.

We could not also independently confirm that what has pushed Drogba to draw close to Apostle Chi was the fact that he once prayed for him on the phone and got his fractured leg healed.

Drogba, AGCOM sources hinted the Journal that, before leaving Buea on Saturday he promised to come visiting again in the future.

Drogba’s visit to John Chi also took them to the Man of God’s playing pitch where they both stretched and undertook some football exercise. Though dressed in up and down blue jeans over a blue-grey pair of tennis shoes, Drogba found time to jog on the pitch and could still showcase his elegant play-styles as John Chi; dressed in Ivorian overall sportswear took a post on the other end of the pitch, demonstrating surprising spectacular actions each time Drogba passes over the ball to him.

Security officials and a few other visitors who were granted access into the Apostle’s residence watched with amazement as the two famous men played the world’s most popular sport.

Below is the brief interview the Cameroon Journal succeeded to have with Drogba shortly before his departure.

What brings you to Cameroon?

I came to see the man of God Apostle John Chi, my spiritual father.

How did you come to know about Apostle John Chi?

Well, I was introduced to him by my brother Eric Monet and since then we have been in touch with Apostle John Chi. I am in London and he’s in Cameroon, but we communicate constantly for my spiritual growth and direction. I am really happy I came here.

What are your impressions about him?

What amazes me is his humility and love for people especially the less privileged. He is a great man of God. In fact Cameroon is very lucky to have Apostle John Chi. I see he cares a lot for the people and little about himself. I have witness spectacular deliverances and healing by the prophet. I hope people understand that what he is doing is for the people not for him.

What do you make of his temperament, is he a proud man?

Proud? No.

What is the force behind your fame?

I am always thankful and grateful to God because without Him there will be no opportunity to score goals. And scoring goals for me means a lot. Not only touching the net and then celebrate but it also means that people will talk about Christ’s glory in my life. I tell you since my spiritual father, Apostle John Chi is here, Cameroon is my second home.
