Democracy Day celebrated at the National Assembly

The National Assembly met at the Chamber of Palace at Ngoa-Ekellé in Yaoundé for the celebration of the eighth International Day of Democracy, on Tuesday.

The President of the National Assembly, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril; the Prime Minister, head of Government, Philemon Yang, members of the government, ambassadors, representatives of political parties, media men, academics, and political science students gathered to witness this event. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril opened the ceremony.

"The National Assembly of Cameroon, crucible of democracy, is also a place of trade discourse as much as confrontation of interests, issues accessing the visibility policy, where arguments are subjected to the test and where alternative views can be handled", he stressed.

The weight of those words was felt during the meeting which was themed: "democracy and citizen participation.” Speakers from various political sides, scholars, parliamentarians, and the young had their speeches centered on the theme. But before giving way to the facilitators of the meeting, the boss of the House commented on the theme: "citizen participation means a free commitment to persons acting for the collective interest.”

Mekassi Etogo, a lecturer at the University of Yaoundé II particularly caught the attention of the audience. He insisted on the participation of young people in the political game to have an idea on several things that goes on.
