Defense Minister compensates soldiers injured in Fotokol attack

Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o, the Cameroonian Minister of defence, yesterday visited the bedside of Cameroonian and Chadian soldiers wounded last week during the bloody raid launched by Boko Haram in Fotokol in the Far-north of Cameroon.

Soldiers wounded during this confrontation are on treatment in hospitals in Maroua and Yaoundé. "There were 68 Chadian soldiers and a hundred Cameroonian injured at the hospital".

They are supported by the Cameroonian Government because according to the agreements signed with Chad, their health remain the responsibility of Cameroon. "Our military doctors are doing an excellent job in handling these cases" noted the Minister of Defence.

During his tour, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o handed to each of them, a sum of one hundred thousand FCFA. A gesture broadcast on Cameroonian television channels to the shocked some people.

"A Minister of defence does not need to appear before cameras to show how he shares money to soldier." "During war, this attitude is disgusting. These soldiers could have been motivated otherwise" remarked Wate Jude, Member of a civil society organization.

The murderous attack on Fotokol according to an official, caused the death of 81 civilians, 13 Chadian soldiers, 6 Cameroonian soldiers and about 50 members of Boko Haram members.
