Defence Forces Exhibit Innovations

The military parade at the Yaounde 20th May Avenue showed committed by the defence forces.

Cameroon's defence forces during the military parade at the Yaounde 20th May Avenue, on May 20, 2012, showcased innovations in fulfilling the mission of defending the national territory, ensuring security, law and order, unity national integration, all conditions sine quo non for Cameroon to become an emerging country by 2035. The Head of State, Paul Biya, who presided at the event on the occasion of 40 years of the advent of the unitary State in Cameroon, his special guests and national and international dignitaries watched the parade.

In line with the celebration theme, "Cameroon's Armed Forces working resolutely towards a strong, prosperous and emerging nation, in a climate of peace and unity," the Army Principal Music Band displayed the Carrousel of the National Day, with the overriding theme, "Cameroon towards emergence." They displayed the national triangle demonstrating great construction works of President Biya's current seven-year term of office and enjoined all to work for success.

The Awae-based International Academy for Security Forces (EIFORCE) that trains Gendarmes and Police for peace-keeping operations called "Formed Police Unit", put up a thrilling motorized performance for the first time. The detachment of Cadet Non-commissioned Officers trained in Koutaba also march past in front of the Head of State for the first time.

The National Police Force also came in with major innovations to ensure efficiency in maintaining law and order. A detachment of the Bicycle Unit of the National Security put up a thrilling performance in demonstrating their resolve for proximity policing intended to deter people from getting into crime. The Police contingent detached to work with the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), called "Police Camerounaise Delta" also marched past in a motorized unit in Yaounde for the first time. It was created in 2009 on the instructions of the Head of State, Supreme Commander of the Police Force.
