Cycling's Two-Headed Federation

ICU still writes to François Njele and copies the President of the Federation, Moustapha Dogo.

Ever since the disputed elections at the Cameroon Cycling Federation which saw the incumbent president, François Njele was barred from the race and Moustapha Dogo elected new president, there has been no peace within the association. The election of Moustapha Dogo was not recognised by the International Cycling Union and the Chamber of Arbitration and Conciliation at the National Olympic and Sports declared there were irregularities during the election and ordered for a re-run.

Faced with this stalemate, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education appointed François Njele director of projects at the federation in charge of the Grand Prix Chantal Biya and the Lamissa Bongo Cycling tours in a move to appease tensions.

However, the measure was like treating the symptoms and leaving the virus as the disappointed candidates at that election continued clamouring for a repeat of the polls with additional pressure coming in from the ICU who designated a mediator in the crisis and the Olympic Committee calling for the respect of the verdict of the Chamber of arbitration.

This made the minister to change his mind, giving a green light for a re-run of elections in the troubled federations namely; cycling, weightlifting and the baseball federations. He however, added a clause that the request must be made by the general assembly of the concerned federation.

At the cycling federation, the minister's decision was welcomed by both warring parties and a normalisation procedure established that will end with elections. First the statute of the federation has been revised according to the recommendations of the ICU and the draft will be submitted for adoption by the general assembly before convening an elective general assembly.

Meantime, the federation is engaged in the organisation of the 2014 edition of the Cycling tour of Cameroon that will take place from March 9 to 18 and it is only after the raise that they are going to iron out issues.
