Council, Chinese partners to alleviate Buea’s perennial water crisis

25 bore holes will be constructed within the Buea Municipality between September 30, 2014 and September 30, 2015 to solve the town’s perennial water problems. The bore holes will be drilled by Chinese experts.

An extra-ordinary session of the Buea Council for the 2014 financial year chaired byBuea Mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge on September 30 endorsed a municipal deliberation to improve the portable water network within Buea, prohibit the emergence of drinking parlours around the university and regulate the activities of unauthorised churches.

A press release from the Buea Council states that: “a municipal deliberation was endorsed by the mayor of the Buea Municipality to alleviate the perennial water problems in Buea. In this vein, the Council signed a memorandum of understanding with some Chinese partners to commence immediately with the drilling of bore holes in Bokwoango Na’anga Area and the Buea General Hospital.”

A memorandum of understanding was signed on behalf of the Council by Mayor EkemaPatrickEsunge and on behalf of the Chinese partners by the Managing Director of EtsDongbeDajing, Mr.GaoSilai.

Other areas earmarked for the bore holes, council officials say, will be done subsequently and completed within the time frame.

The councillors used the extra-ordinary session to endorse the Municipal deliberation prohibiting the re-emergence of drinking parlours one kilometre around the University of Buea neighbourhood…and to regulate the activities of unauthorised churches and noisy bars which have reportedly been source of disturbance of quiet enjoyment of Buea inhabitants.

The councillors also urged the executive of the Council to improve on hygiene and sanitation within the municipality. They called for an end to the sales of fruits and vegetables in the mud.

The councillors congratulated Mayor Ekema for the completion of some Council projects within Buealike the Chapel at the Buea Regional Hospital, the completion of some water projects in the Bonavada area, Bojongo Area and Buea Central.

The mayor on his part announced amongst other earmarked projects, the construction of a flower market beside the Buea Regional Hospital as well as the construction of a Municipal Restaurant to serve the entire population of Buea.
