Construction of new optical ring roads envisaged

A national tender by Ministry of public procurement has been opened for the construction of urban optical ring roads in the cities of Maroua and Limbé and financed by the special fund of telecommunications by the year 2014.

The image of the ring roads, is a digital highway made of optical fibres which passes through the main districts with the ability to withstand very high speed, the data telecommunications and Informatics (phone, Internet), data companies, video, etc

The deadline for the submission of applications is set for October 8. Indeed, according to officials of the Ministry of posts and telecommunications (Minpostel), "procurement procedures are underway and the execution time is set by the end of the year." Ear loops to be installed will allow to extend the network of 49,423 km in Maroua, 35.20 km in Limbe and Buea 29,186 km."

In addition, straps placed at different points of the loop will constitute with other bypass roads for breach of the supply point. It has tha ability to carry the higher capacity of data in minimal time. It induces a better quality of service, broadband. »

In 2011, at the official launch of the project of the urban optical loop of the city of Douala, Minpostel, Jean-Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam, presented the opportunities offered by the optical loop in Cameroon: "the deployment of this infrastructure will facilitate access to services and applications broadband and will accelerate the advent of new services and applications by the operators and suppliers”.

And added that: "Cameroon " will have taken a major step toward the information society through the implementation of electronic administration, the consumer electronic banking, telemedicine, distance education, e-commerce, online job... " Studies are currently underway for the realization of urban optical loops in Ebolowa, Bamenda, Garoua, Bafoussam, Ngaoundéré.
