Cocaine trafficking rife at Douala Airport

There has been a series of cocaine seizures at Douala airport recently and Friday marks the third time in three weeks that cocaine has been seized at the airport.

The officers of the tourist brigade at the Douala international airport seized cocaine in the luggage of a Nigerian passenger which was hidden in the handle.

On Friday, July 18, the drugs were discovered in the handle of a suitcase carried by Sylvanus Asomba Uzoamaka, while carrying out formalities for departure on a scheduled flight of the Royal Air Morocco airline.

The aircraft was destined for the city of Lyon in France, and was transiting in Casablanca, Morocco. "Apparently, he cut the handle of his suitcase to put the drug in before sewing them up. We could not yet determine the exact weight of the cocaine because we have not yet taken all of the drugs" said a police source on Friday around 6 p.m.

Sylvanus Asomba Uzoamaka was immediately handed to the airport police station before the drugs were taken to the regional Division of the judicial police of Littoral where it was kept under surveillance, an investigation was opened.

As a reminder, Saturday 12 July, 300 grams of cocaine was seized at the same airport concealed in the underwear of Anums Cally Ibeh, a passenger with a Nigerian nationality bound for the Spain in a Royal Air Morocco flight.

Before the 1st of July, 3 Kg of heroin was also seized at the Douala international airport during the processing of Royal Air Morocco flight AT507.

The narcotic belonged to Anthony Orabueze, a Nigerian passenger, 48 years old. The drug that was partitioned in bags, was concealed in the luggage of the passenger bound for Paris in France.
