Cmr celebrates 3rd edition of decentralization and local dev't

Cameroon recently joined the rest of the continent for the 3rd edition of the celebration of the process of decentralization and local development.

The Mayor of Bangangté, Célestine Ketcha Courtès, presented to the Minister of Territorial Administration and the decentralization (MINATD), René Emmanuel Sadi, the United Nations price won two months ago by the municipality awarded to him in Seoul, Korea in June. According to the MINATD this is a Sign that the processus is firmly rooted already in the habits of communal management in Cameroon.

Like the municipality of Bangangté, the rest of the municipalities in Cameroon celebrated Friday, the 3rd edition of the African day of decentralization and local governance. The event was celebrated under the theme "the African Charter on the values and principles of decentralization, local governance and local development: a pulse of sustainable development». René Emmanuel Sadi recalled that this day was established by the African Union for greater mobilization and reflection on the process of decentralization and local development.

For the MINATD, in the company of his colleague of urban development and Housing, Jean Claude Mbwentchou and the Deputy Minister Jules Doret Ndongo, decentralization appears today as an excellent tool in the fight against poverty and unemployment.

On the theme of the day, René Emmanuel Sadi indicated that the African Charter of decentralization and local governance, adopted by the African Union at the last Summit in Malabo, a few weeks ago, involved the control of the Pan-African organization to a wide distribution of these values and principles for local sustainable development in Africa.

For the MINATD, there cannot be real development without the active participation of the populations at the base. On behalf of municipal magistrates, Emile Andze Andze, president of the association of municipalities and cities United of Cameroon recalled that issues such as consultation and funding remain to this day the soft underbelly of the decentralization process in our country.

In addition, there is still a question of the remuneration of municipal judges, who are still questioning the fact that provisions are made in the State budget, but are never used. René Emmanuel Sadi then proceeded to the opening of an exhibition in the Hall in Yaoundé, before inaugurating the UCCC in the Bastos neighbourhood Resource Centre.
